The book was in very good condition when received. The outer yellow cover is harder than the inner pages.Tried the first 2 exercises that seemed easy but a good workout for the fingers. Takes some practice to play at the increased tempo.

It had been decades since I played the piano, and had hired a teacher to help me get back my "talent". She started me on these exercises. They really helped build the strength back up in my hands and wrists. (And made my 60 year old mind and my hands get in "sync".

Donâ€™t make the same mistake I made..... get the complete exercise book and not just the first 60....... it makes no sense for this book not to be complete for the price that they charge

These exercises are very important for anyone wanting to play classical music. Make the fingers and coordination vey fine tuned. It's a matter of discipline to keep it up regularly.

I grew up with this book. These exercises are essential if youâ€™re wanting to improve your piano playing skills. They grow in difficulty very quickly so donâ€™t get discouraged. It takes time re-training the brain after you master each exercise. My 7 yr old has mastered the third exercise after just 2 weeks. It definitely helps with finger dexterity.

I had seen some of these exercises referenced in other piano books, and it was very nice to get them all compiled into one book. Personally, I would have appreciated a bit more in terms of recommended use, as I don't have a teacher, but the quality of the book, and of course the exercises themselves, are excellent.

My teacher has a really thick Hanon book with so many extras but this book is skinny and certainly not what I was hoping for.

Not a very clear description of what the book actually is. It has exercises to strengthen fingers and technique. Each exercise comes with an explanation and offers guidelines of how often to practice and what you should expect to accomplish when each one is mastered. Wonderful seller and great price point, just lacking in full description.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who swore by the results she saw and I am forever grateful. I thought my lower back pain was caused by twenty years of competitive horseback riding (and many falls) but Chris Crowley and Dr. James were right. It was actually caused by my own bad habits...endless hours hunched over my laptop. The exercises outlined in the book are simple to do and take about 10 minutes each morning. They're well explained and illustrated with "troubleshooting" techniques if anything is uncomfortable. I noticed a difference within a week. The book is very quick, easy to read and actually even funny. I highly recommend it to anyone who has given up activities they love due to back pain.

I had a severe episode of sciatica three weeks ago (unable to stand, walk, or even sit) and saw my doctor who recommended Jeremy's book and his web site. Just reading the book and practicing the "neutral spine" concept and the recommended isometrics brought immediate relief. Although I am still in pain, in one week, I am down from a 9/10 to a 6/10.I am convinced that using a "neutral spine" prevented the sciatica from getting worse. Last time I had sciatica, I was constantly putting my back out again and again. But this time, once I realized the correct posture, my lower back, hips, and thigh were able to rest and start healing instead of being continuously stressed from bad posture and turning.Reading his book, I came out of denial and realized my eight hour stressful job was literally killing my back. I am overweight, and came to terms that I have to lose weight and tone up my core muscles. There's nothing like pain as a motivator! I have already lost 10 lbs., that's how motivated I am! I am also toning my core which is imperative to healing and preventing another episode. Also, I realized the necessity of walking even for five minutes every half hour is imperative when I return to work.When in pain, it's hard to grasp new ideas or understand the complexity of the spine. Years ago, when I went to PT, I didn't understand what the therapist was telling me, there were too many new concepts, poorly drawn illustrations, and it was just plain exhaustion getting to and from the appointments. But now, I can follow the concepts and the steps in Jeremy's book which are laid out in a way that makes them easy to understand. There is also a ton of helpful information and the book is written in a way that is encouraging and motivational.Also, Jeremy's web site: backforever.com has an initial assessment you take to see where you should start. The videos are easy to understand and there is so much good information! Cholesterol, you know, can be good for the brain.However, aerobic exercise, diet, and enjoying sport all make sense. There's the reality of arthritis. Strangely, my hip, where it first began, has improved since 50. I don't really know why. Probably less golf. Golf puts serious hurt on a body. Many parts. One of San Diego's pre-eminent historians, Richard W. Amero was born in Massachusetts and educated in North Carolina and New York. He adopted San Diego as his home and became dedicated to Balboa Park history, writing for the Journal of San Diego History. The voluminous Richard Amero Collection is a prized feature of the San Diego History Center. The Committee of 100 is a nonprofit organization. Welton Jones wrote about arts and entertainment for The San Diego Union and, later, the Union-Tribune from 1966 to 2001. Reading this book is like discovering pages and pages of wondrous secrets about the life of a dear friend.Throughout, the written material is enhanced by wonderful pictures illustrating the text and guiding the reader through an amazing journey of exploration and discovery about our cityâ€™s favorite park. Of interest, each image is captioned and its source identified, the latter in themselves providing interesting documentation of those who have carefully collected and secured the history of Balboa Park. Of special note, many of the images were provided by Michael Kelly, President of the Committee of 100, which has worked so tirelessly to preserve the structures remaining from the exposition. The same zeal must have prompted Dr. Kellyâ€™s willingness to undertake editing the complex and challenging content of this book.On the one hand, this book provides an almost journalistic description of the transformation of a largely barren and remote section of the then-small coastal city of San Diego into a stunning exposition, celebrating the opening of the Panama Canal and the wonders of the Southwestern United States. Accompanying that description, and often interwoven into it, is a remarkably scholarly history of the host of movers and shakers, visionaries and designers, and engineers and builders who created the whole new architecture style and the lush grounds that served the exposition.On the other hand, a large part of the book is devoted to the day-by-day activities of the exposition, a truly astonishing program of outstanding performances and presentations and wondrous occasions, many dozens of which easily rivaled the number of participants and the level of revelry of present-day major events such as Earth Day and December Nights. Among the many revelations was the realization that throughout the exposition, the Organ Pavilion served as activity central for many days and many nights of entertainment, both for those including the then-new gigantic organ and those many others for which the organ was not involved, including talks by the likes of Theodor Roosevelt, William Jennings Bryan, and many other famous individuals. Some crowds were estimated at 15,000 persons, difficult to even imagine despite the impressive seating available now at the venue. And all of this took place in a city then populated by about 50,000 people.Among the surprises in this book is the wealth of information about the historical, cultural, financial, and political context of the time. For example, local planners were under pressure to scrap the whole project and to defer to San Francisco which was preparing its own exposition at the same time. For another example, political and cultural unrest along the border with Mexico raised very real dangers for citizens on both sides of the border. And for yet another, the exposition involved a great many military troops, from Navy, Army, and Marine units, many of whom provided demonstrations and combat re-enactments, as well as security for attendees. One more, of many: the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 was so successful that it was morphed into the Panama-California International Exposition. Who knew?Sizable portions of this book are not easy reading, largely because of the density of the information and the inclusion of so many names of people, buildings, and areas, many of those changing numerous times through the course of the years leading up to the exposition, during its extended run, and afterwards. In fact, the author included fully 30 pages of notes and citations to document sources for the many details included. However, I found that once I gave up on keeping track of each detail, what I learned about the park and its history is so rich and grand that any sense of effort was well worth it. For example, while I was aware that numerous buildings erected for the exposition were meant to be temporary, I had no idea how very many such structures there were or how truly grand many of them were. Nor did I realize how many differing visions of the park, both during and after the exposition were considered during the planning process, including from those who would have razed all of the structures and return the land to vegetation and paths for quiet and meditation â€“ a difficult picture to consider in the light of how integral to San Diego life the present configuration is.There is so much more to this book. One marvelous chapter, â€œFirst Americans Come to Balboa Park,â€ presents the political and cultural context of how native Americans were included in other major fairs and expositions â€“ generally treating them as side show oddities â€“ and describes in heart-warming detail how local planners prevailed, against pressures to the contrary, to present these citizens respectfully and accurately. It also describes the various exhibits and activities. Among the surprises: life-sized replicas of cliff dwellings and of a pueblo. Again, who knew? This chapter could stand alone as a monograph on the evolution of understanding and incorporation of those who were here long before European immigrants into American life.In a similar vein, another chapter, â€œEast Meets West in Balboa Park,â€ described the competition between San Diego and San Francisco for participants from the east, with Japan building a substantial exhibit including a teahouse and magnificent garden with a traditional bridge. The various structures and their meaning are discussed in considerable detail. Indeed, throughout this chapter the author goes well beyond the descriptive, focusing also on the political and cultural influences both during the exposition and for years thereafter.One more chapter must be mentioned, â€œThe California Building: San Diego Museum/Museum of Man.â€ This chapter requires more sophistication in architecture than I have and the typical reader is likely to find it dense and difficult to plow through. However, I encourage anyone who uses this book to at least skim through the pages to get a feel for the exhaustive attention to the many details incorporated into the design and construction of this jewel of the park, and for the astonishing array of influences from around the world that can be found there. The author has researched major buildings through a good deal of Mexico and many parts of Europe, tracing various styles and details to their apparent sources. Also of interest here are the many uses to which the building was devoted in the years following the exposition until its final designation as the museum it is today.This is too long, and yet it only scrapes the surface of this book. My hope is that this brief overview will lead others to find out for themselves what a delight reading it is. I am grateful to the author, to the editor, and to all those who, past and present, have worked so hard to assure this wonderful park remains the civic resource we all enjoy so much. I leave you with my lingering regret that none of us can go back and directly experience the delights San Diego offered to visitors in 1915 and 1916 â€“ and my appreciation for the glimpse into those marvels provided by this book.

The late Richard Amero was a dedicated historian of Balboa Park. His fine work is produced here with the expert editing of fellow Park historian Mike Kelly. With the 1915 centennial of San Diego's Panama-California Exposition on the horizon, this is a timely and enjoyable read. A must buy for San Diego history buffs.

Frank Cho: Women- Selected Drawings Book Two gathers some of Frank Cho's finest drawings; some high lighting the models upon which he based the drawings, featuring details about the models, followed by renderings in black and white followed by what represents an attempt to show how the transition is made into color, as well as sketches made in pencil and those rendered in ink, by someone considered to be a rising star in graphic illustrations and constitutes a fine study of the female figure by an award winning artist; the finest black and white drawing with great detail which constitutes an excellent study in lighting, high lights and shadows being Seduction and the finest in ink being 50 Girls 50.Highly recommended.

I love Frank Cho! He's a great illustrator and he draws women beautifully. Pound for pound one of the best there is.The 1st Women book was amazing! Tons of content. Tons of sketches. Tons of pin-ups. His work from Marvel to Liberty Meadows and beyond. The 2nd book is lack-luster by comparison. There isn't tons of content. On one side of the book are the sketches and on the other are the inked versions of the SAME SKETCHES! What you're really getting is half the content doubled (once penciled and then inked). It was a bit of a rip-off and I wouldn't recommend it for anyone looking for the BEST of Frank Cho's work.

It's a book of pinup art. Could it sit comfortably next to Moran, Elvgrin, Vargas, Mozert, De Berardinis?Almost half of the book are color plates and that is a big improvement over the first book. Most of the color is digital by Nikos Koutsis, Nei Ruffino, Brandon Peterson, etc. The digital color is, for the most part, pretty average; not great, but not too bad either. One exception is "The Queen's Bath" with Brandon Peterson as the colorist. This is excellent and shows more attention to detail rather than simply using flood fills and gradients. But, truthfully, the best colorist is Frank Cho who has a few near the back of the book including a clean version of the cover which looks like it may have taken some inspiration from Gustav Klimt. All of the color plates have either the final pen & ink version or a preliminary sketch. The sketches are all good choices.Yes, this book is two-thirds the size of it's predecessor and if you prefer quantity over quality then this may be a factor for you. It wasn't a factor for me.There is no paper book cover on the hard bound edition which is a minor complaint and not worth knocking a star off.There is a forward by Geof Darrow (Shaolin Cowboy) which is amusing and gives the book a little more character.So I asked the question on how Cho's color pinups hold up next to other pinup artists... sadly, the digital coloring, with a few exceptions don't fare so well. Cho's own paintings, though, are just as good as any of the artists I've mentioned (although Olivia De Berardinis has a much broader vocabulary) and it was really nice to see some of that in this book.

In thIs second volume of his Women series Frank does it again. And by 'it' I mean provide our eyes with a smorgasbord of beautiful, strong and, at times, sensual and funny womanhood. These aren't wafer thin runway models, however. Lucky for us Cho likes his women with curves. Those curves might be plump butts or full breasts. They might be rounded shoulders and powerful thighs. Usually though, it's both.

Frank Cho is the man who loves his cheesecake but he also loves to draw and knows when to put a line down and when to leave it out. His technique is almost flawless and he improves by degrees. He's in a tenuous place where his popularity could lead to stagnation, and, in some ways that is starting to show. I'm sure many would be fine with that.Not me.He has a lot of promise and I hope he continues to push himself.The content is fairly standard but even there he shows a love for rendering. The title leaves nothing the imagination as to its content. He has a singularly nice take on female form but he does need to consider mixing it up. To see him do a variety of attractive women should be his next goal but he is in comics so it's hard to imagine much pressure on his part to expand, and that's a shame. Catering to the fans who want a type, and define artists by that type is the dead end for innovation as an artist. Even a best selling popular one needs to look beyond the comfort zone and the, often, shallow demands of the fans to find the better artist residing in the recesses of a once creative drive.Frank is very talented and he needs to show it by taking some risks.That said, this is fine for what it, is but not for what it could be. That he does it so well is still very satisfying, as long as the viewer doesn't ponder those possibilities and opportunities being missed.

Her memoir is a tale of both her inner and outer journey while paddling 1,200 miles of challenging ocean waters and attempting to synthesize 50 years of living â€” which has its own unique challenges. â€œInside" has been called "'Wild' by kayak," but frankly I think Susan's story demonstrates far more self-awareness and awareness of the natural environment around her than â€œWild.â€ Not to mention MUCH more preparation. Without such careful preparation, a person could easily suffer a fatal mishap on a journey like this.Susan has accomplished things most of us only talk about doing. Typically I don't like to read, but when I started this book I couldn't put it down! Austin's book, Live to Give, is truly an inspiring book for all ages. He uses real life examples as well as Biblical facts to take the reader on a journey through self-reflection and self-discovery. Live to Give isn't just the title, it's a way of life. Austin not only talked about his talents, but painted a picture on how everyone has been given their own talents; all unique, but none less important than the other. What does it mean to live to give? It starts with knowing the reason God put you on this earth. God has something for you to do. He has given you a gift and when you use it, it keeps in giving. Austin knows that God could do it all Himself. Yet, for some reason, God chooses people to solve the world's problems.Austin has written this book to help young people understand what they have been living for and what they were made to be living for. He uses the example of the boy in John 6 with the lunch to show that each person is unique. He helps his readers find out what their spiritual gifts are.He continues to use the idea of the lunch to teach several spiritual lessons. He has the knack of telling a very interesting story then associating a truth lesson with it. For example, oven baked, Chicago style pizza can take forty-five minutes to bake. But, "Like many good things, it's worth the wait." (124) He goes on to write about waiting for God to produce results in your giving. Like planting a garden, results might not come for months.Austin declares, "Nothing beats living this way! Nothing we could eat, drink, buy, play, watch, or win in life can compare to the feeling of giving ourselves away..." (11)His final encouragement is to start where you are. "Be willing to let Him use you and your lunch." (190)This is a great book for teens. Austins gives man examples of young people who are giving their lives away. He relates stories of Bible characters. And he adds just the right amount of humor.There are discussion questions at the end of each chapter so this would be a perfect book for a group study.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the LitFuse Publicity Group for the purpose of this review.

Recently I've been meeting with a young man, and we've been talking about how God uses us, our gifts, and even our finances to help others for His glory. I gave him a copy of the book the God Pocket by Bruce Wilkinson that has an extremely practical way that we can purposively live this out.And then I received a copy of Austin Gutwein's Live to Give. Wow!Gutwein is the exact same age as the young man I've been meeting with, 18, and the author has wisdom far beyond his years. It's amazing that God chose this young man when he was only nine to change the lives of thousands in Africa through a ministry he formed called Hoops for Hope. And he's been building clinics, schools, and feeding the hungry there ever since.Live to Give is all about how God uses what we have to help others. One of the biggest things I took away from the book was Gutwein's illustration of the young boy who brought the loaves and fishes that Jesus used to feed the five thousand. The disciples went all through the crowd to see what food was available, and this was the only person who remembered to bring his lunch, and he gave it up to Jesus.Likewise we might be the only person in the crowd who has what God wants to use to help the multitude. This was a very inspiring book. Most of the time while I was reading it I forgot how young the author is. He has a very mature way of writing. Then there were times that he would say something that would "snap" me back to reality and I'd realize just how young he was. It was amazing to read his story. To think, someone so young has done something so fantastic with his life already! Just imagine all the amazing things he's yet to accomplish.I liked that the message focused on the little boy who gives his lunch to Jesus, and Jesus performs a miracle using that boy's lunch. This boy and his seemengly meager lunch was used to feed thousands of people! While it's a story we're all familiar with I'd never really focused that much attention to it. Gutwein shows how something so simple can become something much more significant if we allow ourselves to give our gifts to God.This book was so well written, as I said earlier I kept forgetting how young the author is. But I think his youth is what makes this book so enjoyable. He's so enthusiastic about his message - the kind of enthusiasm children often have about everything. Not only does his enthusiasm show through but he's able to take the concepts he's trying to convey and make them so simple.I know this book is geared towards children, teens, and young adults but I think the message is one what we all can benefit from. As we get older I think we tend to feel as if we don't have anything left to contribute or that our gifts aren't as "strong" as they were when we were young and we had the enthusiasm and energy we used to have. But through Gutwein's words I realized that as long as I give my gifts - no matter how insignificant I may think they are - that they can be used to do something wonderful. My gifts can be a miracle for someone else.This was an amazing book with a awesome message. Not only is this book very encouraging it is also is energizing. It made me really look at my life and start working on some of my gifts so that I can start to help others with them. I've already got a few small projects ready to go!

Needed this for a class project for my child, it was very informative and detailed all of the events of Crockett's life and legacy. Plenty of pictures and artwork as well, easy to read.

My daughter loves this book. I love it because it makes her learn history and she actually WANTS to read it. Great series.
