This is a cute book. HOWEVER, please be aware that this book does not appear to have a hardcover format (as many of the other Pigeon books do). Although both hardcover and board book formats are listed above, it appears that this book was only produced in board book format. I learned this the hard way (twice) when I tried to order the hardcover format from two different sellers. Don't waste the extra money trying to purchase the hardcover book - you'll just end up with a board book that you needlessly paid more money for.

This book isn't a narrative quite like the other pigeon books. Its okay, but doesn't have the same feel as the one about the bath or driving the bus. It's more a list of different feelings.

This is true, you are getting basically a short story of the pigeon books. This is meant to be a board book and I believe it's the perfect length for young toddlers. My son loves this book and the different emotions the bird goes through, in some ways he acts like a toddler. I think this book is great for children who are still learning or have learned the difference between being Happy, Sad, and angry. My almost two year old cracks up with goggles when I include those emotions into the text of the book.Definitely a must buy for your young ones.

My Daughter, wife and I are huge Mo Willems fans BUT in saying this, This book should be entilted "I Want My Money Back".It's a total ripoff.... The book is one of those hard cover baby books approx 6" x 6" and the story.. Well there isn't a story..Absolute RUBBISH..... This is a blatant case of an author and publishing company ripping off their loyal readers. And I should know as I am and author.... Disgusting .... Very unhappy... :(

I did not realize this was an abbreviated version of the book. It's ok, just not as good as the full versions. Would not have purchased if i had realized that.

It's fine. It's very short. Short on story. Short on giggles. Short on purpose. All of the other Pigeon books are funny and clever, and easy for children to figure out what's going on. This one just isn't.

I bought this for my daughter after seeing how much she enjoyed other books in this series. As with the others, it was funny, witty, and made her laugh. My only disappointment was how much shorter it was compared to all the others that we had read in the past. I'm sure this was by design, but I didn't realize it based on the description and was a little let down when she opened the package.

My child adores Mo Willems books. I think it began with the Elephant and Piggy series and now she's hooked on the pigeon. The Flea and Diva books are also very well done. I will continue purchasing Willems work.

Very well written. I had to get 2nd Edition to match the classwork syllabus but I'm sure 3rd Edition is just as good.Our class lectures would cover the material pretty well but leave a lot of questions. I'd then read the matching chapters and it would walk me right thru it.One thing; a DW concepts in general seem "Ivory Tower" that wouldn't survive the real world, but then , I'm just learning this stuff so I could be wrong about that. Rather; I wonder how much they still apply. For example; he states it takes 6 months to build a "Data Mart", and add 6 months for each additional data source. So with 40 data marts in a typical enterprise, we're talking 10 years! 20 years if there are 2 data sources in the enterprise. That simply doesn't add up. Somehow I think the industry would have to move quicker than that, but at least he lays out the methods.

I took Kimball's class on the data warehouse lifecycle a few years ago. Recently as I was reviewing some of the problems our organization is wrestling with in building our data warehouse, I went back to the book which is now some 4 years old... but the fundamentals are all there and really they haven't changed much. This is the "bible" I use, and many DW/BI professionals would say the same. If you want to understand the ecosystem for a sound DW/BI solution, this is where you go. There are many other great books that add to it, but start here.

This book covers the complete life cycle including project management, requirements definition, technical architecture design, dimensional modeling, physical design, data staging, and finally deployment and maintenance. I think his approach to planning is a good one, and I am fighting to find the necessary business sponsor and a clear business motivation. Their approach to interviewing key players is a good way to collect requirements.The importance of conformed dimensions and building a data warehouse bus architecture matrix is a great exercise. Some of the controversy with respect to his advocacy of denormalizing has to do with how "pure" your warehouse is. For example if I am merely providing analysis of production data or querying vertically across data marts, I would retain the data in normalized E/R, but present a more dimensional view to end users. I appreciated the discussion on back room versus front room metadata and using active metadata to drive operations. I was disappointed with the lack of discussion of warehouse testing with only a few pages on data quality and cleansing during data staging, and just one paragraph on balancing between the warehouse and production data. This book is very useful, and the accompanying CD will save time creating your own project documents.

The book is worth it just for the project management tools and checklists/templates. Especially the Lifecycle Project Plan and all related templates on the CD-ROM. I felt that alone justified the purchase. I needed some ideas for an ERP, 21 CFR Part 11 Electronic Recrods/Electronic Signatures, implementation and verification/validation project, and some of the more strategic discussions and templates in the book provided some additional ideas and tools to structure my project (w/ modification, of course). So those interested in something more than data warehousing may still find this publication extremely useful as I did.

A VERY good book on data warehousing. It is quite a heavy read, it is stated to have cca. 500 pages but on my Kindle DX it looked more like 1500 pages. It took me a while to get through it and I read it from cover to cover but it is definitely worth it.The writing style of the authors is quite accessible so you would learn a lot even without much previous experience in this domain.

Good book. Many reverse way of thinking, to give you warring what could be wrong.

This book is the bible for many IT professionals involved in Data Warehouse management or IT project management. This information is as current and good today as is was when the first edition was written in 2008. That's says a lot for a field that is constantly being updated due to technology. The basics still matter. This and Ralph Kimball's other books should be on every IT professional's desk.

My husband asked me to read this book for him since pregnancy has caused me to have sleeping troubles at night, and since he's been working extra he hasn't had the time. The book was well-reviewed and suggested by a few people on Quora, so after I finished my last book I moved onto this one and read it from cover to cover via Kindle.This book isn't terrible, it just isn't really good either. After reading it, the target audience I think would benefit the most from it are 1) people unfamiliar with very common online resources (i.e. LinkedIn, KickStarter, etc), 2) skim readers who need a motivational writer who repeats "one million in the bank", "SCORE", and "SBDC" so frequently that if I played a drinking game while reading this book I would have been hammered after chapter 1 and likely hospitalized by the end of the book.The general idea of the book is "you don't need a novel idea to have a successful business made from seeing what other people are doing but doing it better". This might be novel to the tech startup folks fantasizing about moving to silicon valley to have the next big thing, but I didn't think this was as novel given I grew up with parents who had their own businesses. It promotes ideas that are common sense, but some people resist for no good reason such as, "have a normal job to develop on-the-job experience for what you'd like to do in the future" and "you don't have to go bankrupt starting a business, so please don't use your house as leverage".It gives brief overviews of a lot of topics without any real beneficial depth, such as marketing, management, funding, etc...mainly referring readers to SCORE and SBDC as well as other non-profit organizations to get them going. Again, not terrible, just not really helpful.The book does get 2 stars instead of one, however, because it did get some brain juices flowing during the first chapter, but otherwise I found it so repetitive it really didn't do anything but provide redundant entertainment when I couldn't sleep due to pregnancy pains.Kindle is a good mode to read the book, since honestly there's no real need to flip back and forth as with most non-fiction books, so you'll be fine reading this one in a linear fashion.

Recently there has been a tidal wave of business How-To and Self-Help books that make big promises but won’t make any significant difference in your success. “One Million in the Bank” is one of these books. This book is just a restatement and summary of general business basics, plus one part Inspiration, plus one part homespun folksy wisdom.Good points:• If you have no business background or experience whatsoever (you’ve been slinging code for 18 years, etc.), this is a very good book for you. It presents a level-headed grounding in solid and modern business basics.• If you are determined (for whatever reason) that you are going to start your own business, this is a very good book for you. It will give you some good ideas and some inspiration.• The book is well written in simple language with no academic bombast or fixation on one particular approach. You can read (and enjoy) the book in 2 weekends.• Author makes an excellent (and usually missed) point that in business (or anything) you are far more likely to succeed using a simple, proven, straightforward (and possibly boring) approach rather than attempting to concoct something novel or “innovative”.• Jobs in Corporate America and The Government are not at all what they used to be. These days nobody knows how things are going to turn out. So, knowing how to run your own business is a very good idea.Bad points:• If you have any significant training or experience in any sort of business, you will be disappointed in the book because you won’t find any new insights, perspectives, or discoveries. You will have seen every one of these points a zillion times before.• The author is mistaken that starting your own business is a reliable path to “one million in the bank”. The great majority of people who have achieved financial independence worked for a corporation or the government, carefully saved and invested their money, plugged away at it for years, and eventually got there.• For any new business to succeed, there is a certain magic factor, or luck factor, that has to happen. The universe needs to come together at the right time and place, and you get that break. The author misses this. (But, neither has anyone else seemed to understand or explore this factor.)

If you are looking for a “get rich quick” book, One Million in the Bank is not for you. You would inevitably start paging through the book looking for “quick tips” to making your fortunate.The book’s author, Mike Slavin, comes off as a good friend who wants to share his success with you. And when you consider that he made most of his net worth prior to writing this book, he is just that: someone who wants to help people like you and me who want a chance to make the dream come true.This book not only deals with the basics of finding the right business for you; how to get funding; and the long term skills needed to make it work, but also insight into subjects such as will power; changing habits and cognitive biases (I know it sounds complex, but I found it fascinating). In other words, the book covers all the bases.Will this book guarantee you will ultimately put A Million in the Bank? Of course not, but if you want a fighting chance, read this book and give it your best shot. With Mike Slavin as your partner, the odds are on your side.

About the Author

Nobody told me I needed a guidebook on aging. While aging happens slowly, the events that I have been faced with came on rapidly and unexpectedly.I am a senior with elderly parents, and my parents began experiencing serious illnesses - broken hip, kidney failure, dementia, and other lesser but important health problems - and I desperately needed an education - and fast.I always begin by doing research, and I was becoming aware of the need for information on consequences that may occur. In the beginning, dealing with legal issues was of concern, but as time went on, healthcare issues such as home versus institutional healthcare, medicare and insurance, as well as about dementia and how I could provide Mom and Dad with the best care had to be dealt with immediately. Boy was I in for an education about these things as well as asset depletion, Medicaid, and how decisions made could, indeed, "lose the farm".What I didn't know to look for that I found in this book was that even though my parents had all of the standard documents, that wasn't enough to adequately protect themselves, their savings, their home, and their beach property.I also learned about probate, how complicated and expensive it can be, and that with any assets at all, you almost always need an attorney. This book told me I may not have to have an attorney - or even go through probate at all - if things are properly set up.This is the only book I could find that covered all the subjects I needed to know about and several more that came as a surprise. The more I read, the more I realized I hadn't known.I recommend starting your journey through the aging process - yours or your parents' - with this book. You may not even need another, because it will tell you more about things you need to know than any other resource I could find.5 stars for this very important book.

The title of the book is Data Structures and Algorithms, while it contains Quick Sort, Merge Sort was noticeably absent from the book. That's just the first thing I notice. disappointed.

The books goes through all advanced data structures - Sets, Trees, Graphs, etc. For each of the structures it shows whether C# provides implementation out of the box (eg., for Dictionary), or there is third-party Nuget package (eg., Tree), or you need to develop your own implementation. Unfortunately, some NuGet packages haven't been updated since 2011 and are not compatible with .NET Core... oh well!For the programmers that skipped advanced data structures class, the book gives a refresher for things like AVL trees or Graph traversal. It also gives more algorithm implementations than you ever wanted to know.Finally, the book shows you what data structure fits what problem.

I have never had the good fortune to hear Dr. Cohen speak, but his voice comes through the pages of this book loud and clear. Just listen to a selection of sentences on just one randomly selected page:· A life without memory is a ghost life at best· Our brains have no known limits for memory storage. In other words just because you're old, that doesn't mean you've "used up" your brain's memory capacity.· You need to understand a bit about the brain's mind-boggling circuitry.· The limits on memory are logistical, not fundamental. We are limited only by the time we have in life for learning - our brains could contain many lifetimes of information.This is incredible information this man is giving up. All of the above appeared on page 106. I found the entire book to be chock full of optimistic statements and beliefs predicated on Gene Cohen's lifetime of scientific learning.I don't know about you, but when I pick up a book, the cover catches my eye, and then the feel. I want see how the pages feel as I turn them. What font does the author used, and how big is that font? Is the author long-winded in his statements? Does the book have an extra hundred, or two hundred pages of filler material, or does the author get to the point? Am I going to take one or two fabulous thoughts out of this book, or is it full of gems on every page, just waiting for me to get at them?I couldn't put this book down, that's how interesting I found it. Chapter 7 is about "Reinventing Retirement". This chapter will transform your thinking as to what retirement can be all about. It can be the best years of our lives. I use to think that when people get old, they get cranky, and nasty. It wasn't until about five years ago; I suddenly realized that hey, these people were like this when they were young. They didn't need to get old, to get nasty.The book is full of interesting anecdotes about different people at different stages of their lives. This man should write a book interviewing a hundred different fascinating people who are in their 80's or 90's. I haven't found anything out there like this, and Cohen is the perfect gentleman to write such a book.One of the gifts that old age can bring is the ability to selectively re-live different times in your life if you have remarkable recall of what took place. I talked to a man once who was in his 90's, and had been an editor of a major magazine in his earlier years. His mind was extraordinarily alive, and vibrant, with incredible recall. I asked him what was the best thing about being older. He said it was the ability to constantly entertain himself by thinking about events in the past that happened 40, 50, 60, even 70 years ago. As I get older, I am 55 now, I understand what he meant.I met a man who was among the handful of the most powerful Cardinals in the Vatican. This individual was in his late 80's. He told me that he had participated in thousands upon thousands of situations involving the last rites of people who were about to die. I asked him if there was anything in common among the people involved? What did they think about in the last minutes to hours, of their respective lives?He said that none of them expressed guilt over things they had done. Every one of them talked about the things they had not done, but wished they had done. A man might have wanted to go salmon fishing in a river in Montana, or spent more time with his daughter in New Orleans. Not one of them ever said, "You know, I should have worked harder."This book by Gene Cohen gives new meaning to old age, and what it can become for each of us who are willing to grasp the possibilities and ACT on them. This was required reading for a graduate class I was enrolled in last semester. It surprised me that once I got into the book, I truly enjoyed it. It gave some really great, eye-opening perspectives on aging, what the elderly expect versus what they experience, & how things are changing for that age segment every day. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in gerontology & the study of aging.

Highly recommended for anyone starting to contemplate retirement, as wells those already retired. I enjoyed the summary descriptions of four psychological stages we all traverse over the course of our lives. The book contains many interesting suggested activities and resources for staying socially engaged and connected with your true inner self as you age in retirement.

I absolutely loved this book! It is probably the best running memoir I have read. As a trail runner, it's easy to get discouraged reading things about and by the elites, but Cory's experience as a back of the pack runner is super relatable. This book is hilarious and inspiring. I highly recommend picking it up.

Truly my favorite book ever. I have read Nowhere Near First countless times, and will download the audio book to listen to during long races. It makes me howl with laughter, sad at times, and always makes me want to get out and run. I made the leap from half-marathons to Ultra Marathons after reading this book, because Cory convinced me that I, too, could do it. I ran the Across The Years 48 hour race last year (and will again this year) solely because Cory made it sound so amazing. And it didn't disappoint. Cory is humble, self-deprecating, kind, insightful, and inspirational. I wish I lived closer so his awesomeness could rub off on me. Whether you run or not, Nowhere Near First is a worthy read.

Humorous and insightful account of the joy, lessons, adventures, social network, healthy advantages psychologically well as physiologically ultrarunning affords. This is not an egocentric "all about me" book but rather a universal tale about how by the commitment of effort and getting in this game, we can all reap the reward of happiness. That is, it's an earned achievement of doing something hard and extraordinaryAs an aging ultrarunner for over 33 years, I was very inspired by the themes articulated by this book. What hit home the most for me, was the point that while there may be winners (as these events are races), but almost everyone involved is pulling for each participant in their own struggle of endurance to the last finisher and everyone in between. Also, along with all the adventures afforded by ultrarunning, I have found no better group of people to be with from all walks of life with the shared interest in doing something so positively wonderful in so many ways. This book reminded me of this.

Two years ago I began running with the goal of a completing 1 mile. Fast forward to this year, I purchased Cory’s book prior to running my first ultra (50 miles). Nowhere Near First is hands down one of the most helpful pieces of reading I did while preparing. By sharing his stories he answered so many questions I had about training, race day preparation and what to expect mentally. I had read a lot of other books written by elite athletes and I had a hard time relating. That is the best part of Cory’s story is that he is constantly challenging himself, even when it’s hard. He also doesn’t sugar coat what it feels like to go through really long events and suffering. Suffering is part of the process and he embraces it. Every chapter is like its own story and it flows extremely well. If you start small, even with 1 mile, running an ultra can be possible. Cory’s book continues to inspire me to challenge myself to see what my limits are. I will continue to go back to his book as a reference as I train for my first international trail race and a 100K in 2018.

I read ultrarunning books for motivation as I go farther in my training. Generally it works well. There is some demotivation in this one. The author gives us details about race day issues to avoid, and some other practical knowledge. His bragging about how nerdy he is can get a little tedious, and his frequent remarks about how much pain he is in makes a case for avoidance of the whole thing. However, his determination is impressive and a common theme among back-of-the-packers and elites alike. I would recommend other books before this one, but I'm glad I read it.

What sets Cory's book apart from similar running memoirs is his ability to tell a story in a way that doesn't feel forced - it's like heading out for a run on the trails with a friend, just talking about life, running, and everything in between. Cory is so...relateable. Oh sure it's amazing reading the adventures of runners like Jurek or Dean or Roll, but it's hard to read a story about what it's like to be suffering while leading Western States or Badwater 135 and know what that feeling is like. But reading about being stuck on a trail at night, or jumping into a van to escape thunderstorms - I know what that feeling is like.Though I think that Cory would probably bristle at the term "elite," the fact is that he is an elite runner. You do not complete the Badwater 135 without being an elite runner. Yet it's an approachable kind of elite, even though that's a bit of an oxymoron. Cory's not writing about fueling his runs with chia seeds or listing off the powders and tinctures in a smoothie that would make the witches of MacBeth say "Whoa, you're putting that in there?"I gave his book to a running friend of mine, a guy who runs but hasn't ventured longer than a half marathon. He handed the book back to me the next day - after staying up late reading it - asking what trail races were happening soon. That's the effect of Nowhere Near First - it's a book that makes you want to go out and punch through a wall and then race a cheetah. But in a way that it actually seems like it could happen.Cory's writing style makes for a quick read, a verbal runner's high if you will, pages flipping along. It's an impressive debut, walking readers through his life and touching on some of the adventures along the way.It's a great gift for the runner (or wanna be runner) in your life.
