About the Author

While attending college at Nihon University, in 1988, Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype, an introduction to the current Berserk fantasy world. It went on to win Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Kentarou started a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist Of The North Star).In 1990, the first volume Berserk was released with a relatively limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on manga entitled Japan. Miura's fame grew after Berserk began "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of this masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk that aired in the same year on NTV. The series has also spawned a whole host of merchandise, both official and fan made, ranging from statues and action figures, to key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received the second place in the Tezuka Osamu (Astro Boy) Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. The author lives in Tokyo, Japan.

This is the 4th volume in the Berserk series and starts the storyline involving Griffith and the Band of the Hawk. I enjoyed it and continue to find this series very well done. I am always very impressed with how much progress the story makes in each volume.In this volume we get to see how Guts was raised from a boy to be the badass fighter he was in the earlier books. We also meet Griffith and the Band of the Hawk. For those who have watched the original anime this is where the Golden Age story arc starts; so this will be familiar to Berserk anime fans.The illustration continues to be amazing. The story makes a lot of progress in this book and a lot of great new characters are introduced. The action scenes are plentiful and well done.Overall this was an excellent continuation of the series and I enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend to mature graphic novel readers who enjoy fantasy manga packed with action and violence but balanced with a good story and engaging characters.

Since they didn't ask about this book the way they did about 5 & 6, I'm going to type in the answers as part of my review. First of all, let me say I love the series, the writing and illustrations are excellent. Gattsu "Guts" has a rough life, and he has ties to other beings like demons, so there IS violence in the story. This book in particular has some sexual content that would not be appropriate for young children. The story is narrated in the same interesting style, alternating between characters and points of view.

Loved this volume and I really like that things seem to be moving along at a great pace in regards to Guts' relationship with his companions.

The tv show destroyed my heart and these novels take the experience even deeper and of course theyve once again ripped out my heart chewed it up and spit it out..YES ITS THAT INDEPTH OF A STORY...I would not recommend these to young kids as it does have a mature theme to it...Anyone who loves anime and have never experienced Besrerk please do yourself the favor snap in to it.

As someone who grew up on fantasy novels and JRPGs, Berserk is my absolute favorite series hands down. There really is no alternative if you're looking for a mature and gritty story, with themes that envelope nearly all emotions and tragedies. You are absolutely drawn to the characters and their struggles. I can't speak enough praise for what this series does.With that said, this volume came to me in bad quality. I don't know if I got a bad batch or if quality standards at Dark Horse are lower than they should be, but out of 200+ pages, I can recount at least 40 pages that have lacking ink coverage. Many images that I know for a fact have darker shading instead look like they are sketched on. The fight scene at the very beginning of the volume is originally quite laden with ink, as it originally was. However in my copy of this volume, everything looks like it was sketched in a few seconds. Comparing the pages side by side with scans, I know for a fact that there is something wrong with my copy.I purchased this volume new, but the quality really sucked for me. I've also received another volume, New mind-you, that had 3 torn pages at the front.C'mon, Dark House. Why are you doing this series a disservice like this?

I enjoy the content. My old one fell apart

First - I love this book. It is by no means comprehensive or complete, but it's a fascinating snapshot - almost a travelog - of the writers' experience in Jamaica in the 70s, searching for reggae music.This book isn't selling anything, it just tells a story, and it has vivid detail, and I find it a great read whenever I return to to. Don't dismiss it because it's not a "do everything" reggae book. Plus, any book that gives this much space to Ras Michael & the Sons of Negus is worth looking into.

This book has it all if you like 70's roots: awesome writing style, quotes, interviews with reggae masters, copious photos, irie vibe. Don't hesitate, buy with confidence. Electronic reggae can be good I say, but organic reggae is better. Tosh and Big Youth rule. Don't miss the movie "The Harder They Come" !

For many non-Jamaicans,(myself included)this was the first in-depth look at the music that exploded out of that small Carribean island in the mid-seventies and took the world by storm.The main strength of the book is it's lyrical black and white photography(much clearer in the original edition, by the way.)The narrative is occaisionally over-awed,and,in hindsight,sometimes inaccurate.This is a small failing, especially when trying to make sense of a vibrant people and the music which reflects their lives.Facts,as the book points out,are notoriously hard to pin down in Jamaica.Davis and Simon deserve a vote of thanks for the first attempt to go beyond exotica and explain the people,nation and religious experience which shaped the music of Jamaica.

Anyone with an interest in the Reggae scene in the 70's will enjoy this book. I liked the photos an interviews.

My daughters (ages 3 and 6) are big fans of the Berenstain Bears. We have several of their books and they choose them often for their bedtime stories. They surprised me with this book for Father's Day this year and it was great. They were so excited to show it to me and we all read it together.It is a fun story about how the cubs want to do something nice for Papa, so they follow him around and find out all of the jobs that he does around the house. They make a bunch of gift certificates so that Papa can trade them in for a break from his chores. They are so excited to give Papa the gift on Father's Day and can't wait to wake him up to show him. Papa is surprised too and is all to eager to cash in his new gift certificates. Papa gets a much needed rest (sort of) and ends up having a great day with his cubs.Overall, this was a great story to read with my girls. It was entertaining and had a fun message of taking care of dad. It made a great Father's Day gift for me. Highly Recommended!

LOVE all the Berenstain books! Especially this one which I gave to my grandsons for Valentine's gift...their mommy loved it too - brings back memories of HER Mom (that's me!) reading the Berenstain Bears series of books to her as a child! They are well written & adorably illustrated...Hope MY grandsons will read these to their kids one day!

This was a great purchase for Father’s Day. My toddler drew a picture in the front cover and I traced both kids’ hands on the inside of the back cover. My husband loved it!

Bit pricey for a small kids book but its expected. I am not much of a fan but my wife is so got it for her to bring back childhood memories and for her to read it to the kids.

My grand daughter loves these books so I bouhjt this one for her to give to her daddy.

Bought it for father day. Very cute my husband read it to our kids and I added pictures very cute.

Perfect for my Altar!This is an absolutely beautiful compendium of prayers, invocations and deep dark abysmal meditations; a book sorely needed by true spiritual Satanists. Worth the money; don't pass this up!

This is a lovely, very heartfelt book, I knew can really tell that the author truly believes in what she is writing. I also really like how she's brought Satanism into a modern light. However, as someone delving into The Left Hand Path, it's really gimmicky. The rituals are very wiccan and the prayers are very vague. That being said, the hymns are all great.

I'm along time can of Marie RavenSoul's writing from her website in-satans-honour.com. I am very pleased that it has been published into a book. The format is clean, organized, and easy to read. It's small size and light weight makes it a nice to handle. It's a useful resourceful to have for a theistic Satanist.

This really is a treat to read. RavenSoul writes from the perspective of one who not only believes in the existence of the real being we call Satan but also accepts that being as supreme God. She makes no apologies whatsoever, and then dives right into the praise and reverence and worship and comforting darkness on every page. I found myself re-reading pages so I could say them out loud.

The best book I've seen that deals with blending your fibers for color. Deb sticks to this specific subject throughout the book. I have been working with colors and fibers forever, but when I ventured into spinning last year I realized that applying what I know about color theory to fiber blending is a departure from my previous experience.I am really glad that I was able to purchase a drum carder (I love the Brother deluxe. Great value, quality from real people) but if you have hand cards these techniques will work just fine. I use mine for samples. I dye my own fibers too, and Deb's input has helped me to be more focused about how much of my favorite colors to dye, and how to achieve saturation.Tones, tints, shades, heathers and more. This book lives on my must-have shelf. Deb also has some online classes through Interweave Press which are excellent companions to her books.I also recommend "Colorworks" by Deb Menz, for many types of fiber artists and painters.

Thus book is an excellent text in dyeing, carding, spinning the yarn you want. The author takes you through the process of choosing and then executing the yarn you need for your project. An excellent resource for all yarn makers out there. There many color photos and explanations of how to work with the fibers.

Coming from a formal art background, I really appreciate this book. Not only does it cover the basics of dyeing and carding/combing well, but it also provides lessons in color (beyond the basic color wheel) where you directly see the results of mixing and using different color combinations. There are samples of finished knitted pieces using similarly-colored yarn yet with slightly different properties. Readers are encouraged to use the exercises for future self-directed study. Great cataloguing ideas are offered.I highly recommend this book!

I have been dyeing awhile, this book is somewhat helpful but most of it I already knew

As a spinner and natural dyer I found this book informative and can see it becoming a real 'go to' when mixing colours either on the carder or during the spin

The treatment of color by light and by pigment is very descriptive. And I found the detailed descriptions of how to dye fleece using many types of dyes to be very helpful. This is a comprehensicve treatment of color and dying tecnique and is a reference book that I will use often in fiber arts.

Great book for a beginning spinner.

if you are a spinner or a knitter you need this book for dyeing your own yarns (handspuns) I enjoyed this book . it is a refence book plus a great book for inspiring your dying projects. I d reccomend this book to any one into dyeing and spinning ~
